Visa Process

The USA student visa is categorized as the F1 visa (for Long-Term studies) or M1/J1 visa (for vocational studies or exchange programs).

Before initiating the visa application process, students must obtain an I-20 from a recognized US university and an active SEVIS number.

The student visa is typically issued through a face-to-face interview at the USA counselor office in the applicant’s home country.

Any student with a valid I-20 can schedule their interview at their local counselor’s office. The visa process generally takes about 2 days, with the biometric appointment on the first day and the main visa interview on the second day. Most decisions are made on the spot; however, cases requiring further information may take anywhere from 1 week to 1 month to process.

Although the F1 study permit is initially granted for 5 years, students must maintain their SEVIS status to keep their visa valid.
